Denise Cowburn-Levy knew how lacking the West Coast seasides were in truly luxurious and charming, white-clad beach houses – especially ones which were diligently cared for while they weathered the conditions that come with great beachfront positioning. And so she and her husband began building a collection of property dreams.

Now, the Beach House Collection has four (4) villas strewn around the growing seaside town of Yzerfontein. Their latest addition is an interior departure from its bright, A-typical beach house siblings, but no less arresting, calming, and oh-so welcoming.

WELCOME TO ETERNITY PENTHOUSE

When I first visited Yzerfontein years ago, I was glad to be out of the city for a bit. Ready to be away from the crowded Cape Town beaches still saturated with tourists and locals, I wondered how having a private beach or island must be, and it’s why I made plans to try to find a bit of that bliss elsewhere.

It turns out, serendipitously, that the first little beach house I ever visited in this West Coast town would one day be purchased, and transformed into one of The Beach House Collection’s latest and stunning offerings.

THE DESIGN

Eternity Penthouse is at home on the top floor of the collection’s Eternity Event Space – already ideal for those wanting to host and not go. When you initially enter the house, it’s clear that there is a deep and abiding connection that stretches out from the driveway to the sea, and any guest usually takes a deep breath once they glimpse the view from down below first.

Designed externally to align with the white, shingle-clad Hamptons aesthetic many a seaside town loves, the interiors are a darker, intimate departure, and invite you to slow down, savour, and languish in this cosy, secret corner of the world.

Charcoal walls, glimmering fixtures in silvers and golds, clean mirrored wardrobes, and the stark contrast of white-framed windows ensure the interiors have all the lighting needed without unmooring from the sexy, truly more refined maximalist urban motif which defines so much of the Eternity Penthouse.

The bronze-framed mirrors, generously spaced marble-tiled shower, and showstopping stand-alone bath in an open-plan bathroom, further drive home the curated luxury vision. However, the soft furnishings truly transform this nexus of classic Parisian-style opulence & contemporary edge, into being warmly welcoming.

Strewn across the more than adequate leather couches in the downstairs event space and upstairs in the penthouse, are throws and pillows in shades of beige and burnished orange. Matching the sandy curtains slowly billowing with the sea breeze, guests would be hard-pressed not to simply grab a drink and settle in one of the numerous seating options indoors or outdoors (including unassuming deck couches & chairs), and while away the day watching dolphins among the waves.

THE PRACTICALITIES

With all the amenities taken care of, guests have the excitement of nature (including foraging) to look forward to, and local wildlife like seagulls, the occasional roaming ostrich, or dolphins frolicking through the waves.

THE WELLNESS

Whether it be fitness, food, fine art attempts, or the simple vitality that comes with being outdoors, there’s a definite self-help element to retreating to Yzerfontein and, specifically, one of Beach House Collections’ properties.

Yzerfontein’s slow pace, expansive views, general quiet, and everyone’s embrace of nature as part of the experience, have brought in individuals and families from all over the world the last few years.

Cherished moments happen here without planning.

Children cycling down the safe streets; Couples reconnecting; Solo mindfulness exercise with the sunrise; Braais with friends & new acquaintances, and even cold water plunges & yoga.

Through wellness retreats (a long way off from the militant old guard), self-imposed digital detoxes, and the yearning to unhurriedly tap into an as-yet not overwhelmed seaside destination, many are seeing the gains of secreting away to the West Coast town for a health & wellness reset – whether rejuvenating the heart, mind, or spirit.

My peace came with a culmination of the penthouse’s best elements – especially pampering bubble baths (harkening to spa treatments) and sunset views!

THE VERDICT?

Optimizing sleep through blackout curtains, or biohacking your way to good health with organic local produce, Eternity Penthouse has the proximity and facilities to make a valiant effort towards giving you a health boost.

Sumptuous design, and true to beach house luxury & captivating the senses, the penthouse is a vacation spot where you can come as you are, and stay in good comfort right till the end; Even a chef and bartender are available for hire, and the nearest grocer is just a 6 – 8 min drive away!

The slow, the salt, and the sea here are the remedy to whatever ails you.

As far as West Coast hospitality offerings: it’s a sexy and private escape (with hotel-like amenities too) that impresses – enough to maybe extend my next visit!
