Outfit of the Day: Fine Art

I recently got the opportunity to visit Norval Foundation, in Steenberg.

The incredible magnitude of the gallery itself, is matched only by the landscape that makes its backdrop.

“We are dedicated to the research and exhibition of 20th- and 21st-century visual art from South Africa and beyond…We aim to create high-quality exhibitions and public programming to broaden our understanding of the visual arts.” – Norval Foundation

I got the opportunity to walk an installation  by Serge Alain Nitegeka, titled: ‘Structural Response III’.

You’re to experience a likening, to the jarring and tumultuous journey many take across borders; moving towards an unknown, one hopes will be better than what they’re leaving.

The strategically designed Sculpture Garden on the Norval Foundation property, features 3D installations by local and international African artists. The walkway wall I’m sitting on, is not curated art…cant say the same for the fine Becky chilling on it!

“The unique site, bisected by a protected Cape lowland freshwater wetland and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Western Cape, features flora indigenous to the area.” – Norval Foundation

On the property, is also Skotnes Restaurant – a superb restaurant where food is at home amid the panoramic artsape. Don’t be afraid to explore their complex & divine menus – that’s fine wine, gourmet lunch and dinner selection to boot!

I suggest walking off the sleepiness guaranteed with your Skotnes meal – perhaps to the Gallery’s 2-8, feature major retrospectives by renowned artists like Edoardo Villa, Ezrom Legae, and Sydney Kumalo.

‘The Kumalo and Legae retrospectives, the first to be undertaken by any institution globally, draw together a considerable body of work: a series of bronzes and drawings chronicling their innovative artistic practices. The Villa exhibition focuses on the work he produced in the period of 1958-68 and is centred around his monumental sculpture Africa (1958).” – Norval Foundation

By the way, outfit details: Hair by Aretha Bauwens Hair, 3/4 high-waisted pants from H&M, Makeup by M.A.C Cosmetics, sleeveless coat vest is an impulse buy from a Chinese shop in town. gold sandals are re-purposed(read: stolen) from my mum’s closet, and my handbag is from Colette by Colette Hayman.

  1. Aaaaaw thanks dude! The vest jacket was such a brilliant cheap find! You’ve gotta rock it with a lovely cream polo in the Fall though.

BTW: Am so using your Paris post for my trip in Sept.

  2. Oh my goodness, you are stunning! I absolutely love this vest. I can’t wait for fall weather so I can start wearing all my vests again!
