Why The Elite Keep Returning To The Winchester Hotel

Ask a local and you’ll find we’re adventurous to be sure, exploring dazzling new eateries and hideouts in the city with gusto. However, we also regularly venture to a handful of unmissable favourites where the menu is dependable, the service is passable, and the vibe is a heady dose of youthful exuberance.

The cosmopolitan Winchester Hotel though, is the kind of spot with a poignant history, a bustling present, and a brighter future.

Recently fully facelifted into an unequivocal jewel of the seaside, the modernised hotel can much easily claim five-star status thanks to the glamorous and cosy Sanctuary Spa addition, and gloriously chic bespoke suites.

Against the priceless backdrop of World Wonder Table Mountain, ‘The Winnie’ overlooks the ebbing azure waters of the Atlantic and sees a steady stream of locals and travellers from around the world, all ready to revel in a sun-kissed stop-in that’s consistent about serving heaps of quality – from dining to staycating!

The ones who choose to book in, and the ones who spontaneously visit, are known as the elite – the good sort, who see, acknowledge, and happily pay for a great hospitality deal and accessible luxury.

We are warmly welcomed, checked in efficiently, luggage deftly handled, and ushered about seamlessly. We’re surrounded by pretty people and even more stunning surroundings. The Winchester Hotel experience is elite, and therefore every guest and visitor can be counted as their elite!

It’s wonderful and kind of addictive – thus, my continued returns.

🌞 Even on rainy days, the views are breathtaking.

On a great day, The Winchester Hotel captures the spirit of summer with the perfect Riviera-style cafe seating between towering palm trees interspersing the tables. Get a hit of sun, greenery, and people-watching.

Located along the famed Sea Point Promenade, it’s great to sip a brew from hotel room or the ground-floor patios and marvel at the panoramic view before you.

And weather aside, the views are something to marvel at from within the glorious Shoreditch restaurant too. From petrol blue leather booths and looking out French doors, visitors can enjoy some of the most delectable breakfasts, scrumptious tapas-style lunches, and rich dinners – choices updated with local flavours, global food trends, and kitchen talent in mind.

The hotel’s courtyard and its monochrome patterned floor tiles, are another picture-perfect spot where magenta bougainvillaea cascades down the hotel walls and makes every photo taken here enviable and memorable!

You’ll definitely feel like the lead character in your own movie at this stunning stop-in!

The completed refurbishment has added two sensational and sophisticated rooms that make up The Arcadia Suite – idyllic for any globetrotter.

The elegant seaside hotel doesn’t skimp on the traveller essentials of course, and their latest offerings also level up on the lavish, with plush bedding, textured and vibrant finishings, and the kind of quality per square foot that hotel luxury is defined by.

And when history beckons, head to The Arcadia Suite‘s lounge, which retains some of the building and hotel’s past in nostalgic elements such as bookcases, reading lamps and occasional chairs.

It’s everything you both want AND need – including a standalone bathtub, I wouldn’t mind wiling the hours away in.

More than aesthetics here!

🍹 Here to Sip and Savor? This is how The Winchester Hotel sets the bar.

Harvey’s Bar is where even I would bring family, friends, and business contacts.

It is cool without trying hard, opulent in flashes of design choices (be still my green marble terrazzo-loving heart!), and its refreshing drinks menu (inspired by the flavours of the Cape) tempts folks to try something new at every turn.

They’ve got a medley of traditional bar menu essentials like classic G&T, but they also have cocktails and drinks prepared by skilled mixologists, that excite and intrigue – whether you’re Sobercurious or ready for something with a kick!

The atmospheric Art Deco Harvey’s Bar is on the ground floor of the hotel and has the benefit of ‘The Winnie’s sunlit Cape Dutch-style gables and gorgeous skyline, to encourage visitors to settle into the ochre stools or leather-upholstered booths, for more than a quick drink.

Languish in the sun with an elixir that satisfies!

🏊‍♂️ Dive into Cool Serenity

Equal in stylishness to the hotel’s distinguished rooms & suites, the pool is both an Instagrammer’s dream and a vacationer’s oasis – complete with plush black & white striped loungers and umbrellas, and a glittering pool with only a handful of guests there at a time.

You can start your day there early, or become one with the cushy seating till late as you get your sunshine on while ordering treats from Harvey’s Bar or Shoreditch restaurants menus.

It’s tranquil and stunning, as well as low on guest foot traffic…kind of the perfect idea of an exclusive hotel pool!
