It is the event people fly down for, from Johannesburg to Brazil and even Switzerland – The annual J&B Met held at the enchanting Kenilworth Race-course.
This is a horse-racing event that shows off blue-blood and thoroughbred horses and their superior and pristine breeding, as well as a fashion and networking extravaganza.
Consisting of 10 races spanning out the entire day, people had the whole day to do as they pleased; Bets were taken and fashion competitions entered.
This years theme was “Made different” – a homage to J&B and its unique production and heritage.
I was accompanied by my friend Simphiwe as we braved the bright Cape Town sun and massive crowds. The people pulled out all the stops – some dressing to the edge of extreme.I witnessed feather boas and gold swimsuits, I saw full body lycra and frills and lace.
To say that it was an excellent day would be an understatement.
Many companies purchase tents to hold their employees. In the SABC tent I saw most of the cast of Generations, Muvhango and Isidingo as well as the Top billing presenter posse.
I had the great pleasure of meeting our Ms South Africa as well as internationally renowned designers Uyanda Mbuli and Gert Johan Coetzee.
Other celebrities include: Mika Stefano (Blogger), Janez Vermieren (Top Billing), Trevor Gumbi(Comedian), Phat Joe (RGB Presenter) and Joao Fonseca of Micasa.
I am pleased to say that if every year is as great as this, everyone needs to enjoy the Met at least once.
