So what is a girl to do when she moves to the city, has no prospects, but has a substantial fashion & lifestyle network? There’s quite a lot to do.

Sorbet Kenilworth/Ruff Tung Summer Event

Co-designer of fashion brand Ruff Tung (dedicated to the plus size, and mothers trying to acquire taste) Bridget Pickering invited me to a summer soiree, in association with beauty therapy hub Sorbet Salon, located in Kenilworth, Cape Town. It was a relaxed meet-‘n-greet where people of different shapes and sizes got together and networked, got their nails done, browsed and shopped the latest Ruff Tung collection, and reviewed female, male and generally unisex products from Dermatologica, Environ and more.

The products are affordable as hell if you’re preoccupied with your skin and want to do something for it. Owner of the location, Nicci, offered up prizes to the attendees, as well as a warm ambiance off-set by the African sunset showering the location with amazing natural light.

Next door to Sorbet is a restaurant known as Bootlegger Coffee Company catered the event with finger foods that retired my hunger pangs for good; I’m talking mini Yumburger composed of grass-fed beef patty with tomato, rocket, crispy onion, gherkins, mustard mayo, and relish; there were Jalapeño BootPoppers, Chicken Strips with Relish, and glasses of 2014  Bianco Di Stellenbosch Pinot Grigio.

Everybody, including myself, chose to do their nails in some interesting Sorbet flavored colors, and the personnel revealed their unwavering willingness to help customers and deliver perfection with each client.

I rocked a tribal trademark Ruff Tung dress in black and white, from their latest collection, as well as lace-up black stiletto boots from Cotton On.
