I’m black before my first cup of coffee, and I’m black before you talk to me.
I’m black before you even gauge my credibility.
Black before Afternoon Tea.
I’m black when you walk by me, and particularly black when you sometimes dismiss me.
I am a creative, a vagabond, a daughter, a women, a person, a friend…and unequivocally: I am black, and thankfully living.
We’d like to keep living, thank you – hopefully fundamentally enriched by true equality, peace, and justice, in this life.
While we continue the (centuries long) fight for that, please note:
“If you have a critique for the resistance, for our resistance, then you better have an established record of critique of our oppression…if you have no interest in equal rights for black people then do not make suggestions to those who do. Sit down.”Jesse Williams, 2016 BET Awards.
