Bonolo Modisakwane, the Media Representative of Pana Television, as well as one of the owners of South African fashion label Milq & Honey Kelly Davids made me aware of something. We have a tendency to only support brands once they have reached international acclaim, forgetting that its local support that initiates that success. Pana Television is built on the premise of attempting to initiate interest and gradual success into African-based filmmaking, African themes in cinema, and promoting the ideals of contemporary Africans in fashion, art etc.
Milq & Honey is a label that was recently featured on CNN and other such platforms, with regards to the gradual global acclaim as formidable fresh and innovative designers, that they are receiving. Gifted with a dexterity of fusing different kinds of fabrics and patterns into stylish pieces is their signature across their collections. Their success could be measured by their stylish fathers influence, the sisters individual successes abroad in modelling, and their natural flair for fashion. Speaking to Kelly is an experience because she has not lost her excitement for fashion-its an adoration that echoes in the effort that is put into each clothing item made. The photos below are behind-the-scenes shots by Kelly Davids from photoshoots featuring their apparel: There’s one with photographer Ricardo Marcus K and model Marsi, a prosieben German show “models in the city ” shoot M&H styled, and their latest GQ shoot with photographer Sivan miller and international model Hanna Nitsche.
I covet all their apparel because of the colors that bring a regal exoticism to mind. I wore their apparel to Mercedes Benz ashion Week in Cape Town this year, as well as South African streetwear brand Head Honcho’s “Stay Fresh Saturday” event at The Grand. As a testament to their hard work, the Davids sisters are nominated for Emerging Designer of the Year 2013 at the 5th annual Africa Fashion Awards that will be happening tonight. Prayers go out to them for a win. We’re proud to bask in the land of Milq & Honey.
